A History of Waterbeds and Our Company

The 70's

Wood-frame Waterbeds became very popular in the 1970s and 1980s. Statistics show that a quarter of the United States population owned a wood-frame waterbed.

This created a significant demand for a reliable and capable delivery and set-up service. That is when we started our waterbed company, Rapid Waterbed Service. We had a trained team that offered delivery and set-up services for stores and a waterbed moving service for customers. There were many waterbed stores in Southern California back then, and Rapid Waterbed Service was the go-to company for both stores and customers.

The 80's

In the early 1980s, a Softside Flotation Waterbed was created, and it was a big hit. It's a waterbed that resembles a regular box spring and mattress and accepts conventional sheets and furniture. Today, many customers are replacing their bulky wood frame waterbeds with the new style Modern Flotation Sleep System.

The 90's

In the early 90s, waterbed stores were becoming scarce. Still, we maintained our commitment to serving waterbed customers, filling orders by phone, and shipping products across the United States and even to some international customers.

In 1994, when the Internet became widely available, we opened our Online store, TheWaterbedDoctor.com, to online shoppers.

We expanded our product line to include complete bedroom sets and a full line of replacement parts and maintenance products.

Today
